Part 2 of the 5 part series on learning how to grow your network using Web 2.0 technology concerns social networking.
Social Networking websites have taken the internet by storm! Two of the most popular are Facebook and MySpace. Today I will be discussing Facebook.
Facebook.com is a social networking website that has created the world’s youngest billionaire. Facebook costs nothing to join and you have many avenues through which you can advertise your business, make contact with and learn from people in your industry, or just grow your contact list through making friends.
Step 1: Go to www.facebook.com and register for free.
Step 2: Look though your current contact list and see if they are on Facebook as well. This can prove very useful and is the exact idea of social networking; making friends through friends.
Here is an entertaining little video on the concept of social networking.
Step 3: Find a group that interests you or make a group of your own. FYI: There are groups dedicated to making friends. Click Here for a great Marketing group.
Step 4: Advertise your product or service through a group and/or on your profile. Keep your status updated with info on your opportunity.
Step 5: This is IMPORTANT: DO NOT selfishly spam your opportunity to every contact you can get your hands on. This is social networking and its about building relationships with people whom you can help and whom can help you. This is the Key to successful networking.
Facebook also offers the opportunity to advertise on the site. These ads are targeted by keywords in a members profile, which indicate the topics in which they are interested.
That’s it! That’s the basics of Facebook and it really is that simple. Just get out there and start networking.
